What Are Dental Veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are normally crafted from porcelain due to the material’s durability and tooth-like appearance. They’re bonded on the front surfaces of teeth, and they can instantly transform your smile by correcting and covering issues like chips and cracks, discoloration, gaps, misshapen teeth, and more. Designed to look and feel just like your natural enamel, veneers offer a long-lasting solution for patients who are dealing with one, two, or several aesthetic flaws affecting their visible teeth.
The Process of Getting Veneers
Generally, the process of getting veneers takes two appointments. The first involves a sit-down consultation with Dr. Mockler, in which she’ll examine your smile and talk openly with you about your goals. Once we’ve determined that veneers are a good option, the next step is to prepare your teeth. A small amount of enamel will need to be removed from any teeth receiving veneers to ensure that they look natural once placed. Don’t worry—while this process is technically irreversible, it isn’t harmful to your teeth!
Impressions will also be taken, which are sent to a dental lab to assist with the creation of your permanent veneers. This step normally takes a week or two, so you’ll wear temporary veneers in the meantime. However, once your veneers are ready, you’ll return to our Campbell office, and Dr. Mockler will swap out your temporaries for your new ones. Any last-minute adjustments are made, and then once you’re satisfied with how they look and feel, you’re ready to begin enjoying the benefits of your newly enhanced smile!
The Benefits of Veneers
Various types of cosmetic services indeed exist for the purpose of improving how your smile looks—but there aren’t very many other options that are quite as comprehensive, beautiful, or lasting as veneers. Some of their most notable benefits include:
- They can address one, two, or several types of aesthetic flaws at once in multiple teeth.
- Only a very small amount of enamel needs to be removed to prepare your teeth for veneers.
- With the right care, veneers can last for 10 – 15 years or more, and if the need arises, they can be replaced to keep your smile looking its best.
Understanding the Cost of Veneers
As with any other type of cosmetic dentistry procedure, it’s wise to go into the process with a clear understanding of what it’ll cost. It’s true that veneers come with a higher upfront cost than most other cosmetic solutions, but it’s important to realize that you’re paying for a truly superior answer to your dental flaws. During your consultation, Dr. Mockler will be able to share some specific numbers with you so that you have a very clear idea of what you’ll be expected to pay. Our office is also partnered with the financiers CareCredit and Wisetack to ensure that you have options when it comes to making your veneers more affordable.
